Observation

Maybe, to observe is my most powerful skill as a designer. Being not only highly sensitive but also empathetic, to observe means I can perceive consciously. The experience becomes a presence.

Following the understanding of Vilém Flusser phenomenology is one of my favourite ways to study my environment as it includes to unlearn how to see and feel. Phenomenology allows to sense the abstract, the beyond and opens up space for new thoughts.

Project: Abstract visuals in the context of weather
— An attempt to translate subjective perception
By: Stephanie Müller
Year:
2018

This project looked into the translation of weather conditions into abstract imagery. The focus was the subjective sensation in juxtaposition to scientific weather data. Through visual experiments, it was discussed how abstraction could reflect the perception and how text could underline specific aspects. All image sets refer to the weather condition on the 29th of October 2018, Basel.

The image slides show various visual material in different compilations trying to translate moods through colour, form and texture. The aim was to discover an intuitive exploration, reflect on the subject and find interesting aspects worth to explore further.

The process documentation comprises all conducted visual experiments.
